Welcome to my professional portfolio! Each page outlines my qualifications for, and evidence of, my leadership skills. This portfolio is organized around Alberta Education's dimensions for the Principal Quality Standards and how each relates to my vision for education and leadership.

As we move further into the 21st century, more and more dramatic changes to the education system will occur. To lead a learning community into embodying 21st century learning and teaching and building 21st century learning environments requires a leader to maintain a clear vision, passion and purpose. It will require patience with the system and patience with each other. Ultimately, good teaching and good leadership is about having a vision and having the courage to lead.

What and who impacts my learning?

  • One of the most influential figures in developing 21st Century learning environments is Sir Ken Robinson. He speaks with such passion about the necessity for change in education. His website provides excellent reference material as we move into dramatic change in the way teaching/learning is done.
  • Beyond Robinson however, there are many others that influence my learning.
  • I learn every day from the people that I work with, either students or colleagues. My administration team have always been a source of learning for me and give me an opportunity to talk about and refine ideas.
  • Lately however, I have been exploring the idea of PLNs. (Personal or Professional Learning Networks) I have signed up for a Twitter and Linked In accounts and have started to follow a number of different people and organizations. These PLNs have allowed me to customize my learning in a very personal way. This has now become my primary professional learning network and I have made connections with colleagues throughout the world.
  • I find though, that the idea of professional learning is a very fluid one. What I focus on in one year, may be totally different in the next.
  • This is by no means an exhaustive list. Learning is a lifelong process and I strive to embody that statement.
